I come here today in honor of my mother, Phyllis MacLaren, whose 70th birthday is today. Phyllis is an artist whose work honors human rights activists, including people who have been imprisoned or hurt by the state. Through her work, she spreads stories of bravery, dedication and heroism. When we met Bu Sri and Bu Lestari last year, we were so inspired by your kindness and compassion, even though you have seen so much difficulty and sorrow in your lives. We were touched by your faith and optimism for the future. And we share your dedication to making Indonesia a truly free and democratic country.
