Ibu Pujiati was elected head of her neighborhood committee, and had led efforts that secured government funding for a primary school in her community. In addition to her union work at the soap factory, she helped farmers in her neighborhood organize. When she was arrested, she "saved" her husband by telling the military that only she was a communist. She is proud that she never "named names" and as far as she knows, none of her fellow union members were imprisoned.
