Three Ibus     2012     30"x40"
(Ibu is an honorific title used in Indonesia, literally translated as "mother" and is used in speech much like the English words "ma'am" and "lady".)
Ibu Pujiati, Ibu Sri Sulistyawati and Ibu Lestari were each imprisoned for more than ten years for their roles in defying the Indonesian Dictator Soeharta after a military takeover in 1965. More than a half million Indonesians were beheaded and nearly 50,000 imprisoned in the "Year of Living Dangerously."
They now live in a retirement home for victims of State violence.
